OpenAI is best known for products like ChatGPT (language models), DALL-E (image generation), Whisper (speech recognition), and Codex (code generation). OpenAI has experienced remarkable financial growth, reporting $300 million in revenue in early 2024, a 1,700% increase from the previous year, with a projected revenue of $11.6 billion for the coming year. However, it still operates at a loss, with expected losses of $5 billion in 2024 due to high AI infrastructure costs. Recently, the company raised $6.6 billion in one of the largest private investments in U.S. history, bringing its post-money valuation to $157 billion. Although Apple was notably absent, key investors include Thrive Capital, Microsoft, Nvidia, SoftBank, and several others. This funding is aimed at enhancing AI research, expanding computational capabilities, and developing new tools, with OpenAI currently serving 250 million active ChatGPT users, including 11 million ChatGPT Plus subscribers and 1 million business users.

OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Mira Murati has announced her departure from the company after six and a half years.
