Roberto Viola is an Italian engineer and high-ranking European Union official, currently serving as the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) at the European Commission. Born in 1958, Viola holds a degree in Electronic Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration. His career spans various roles in both the public and private sectors, including leadership positions at the European Space Agency and the Italian Communications Authority. Since joining the European Commission, Viola has been instrumental in shaping EU policies on digital transformation, telecommunications, and media.
