Buildings use about 40% of all energy in the EU. However, the annual renovation rate is only about 1%, and around 75% of buildings have poor energy performance, according to the European Commission’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). The updated EPBD, effective from May 2024 and to be adopted into national law by 29 May 2026, requires each country to develop a national building renovation plan with clear milestones through 2050. One major obstacle to faster progress is that renovation planning is complex and expensive. This is the challenge meinhaus.digital aims to solve.
Leonie Dowling, Carolin Krebber, and Ina Schröder co-founded the platform in Germany. It combines AI-powered software with expert advice from architects and energy consultants, helping property owners and buyers plan and document renovations on their own. The platform offers tools like cost estimation, bank financing documentation, and a central place to store floor plans, energy certificates, and maintenance records. The company uses a B2B2C model, reaching users through industry partners.
In April 2026, meinhaus.digital raised €1 million in a pre-seed round from L-Bank Baden-Württemberg. The capital will fund team growth, as well as platform and partnership development.
The EPBD’s national renovation plan requirements and minimum energy performance standards for the worst-performing buildings create a direct regulatory context for tools such as the one meinhaus.digital is building, that reduce the planning and financing burden on individual property owners.
