Perply scales AI-powered language tutoring after $150 million Series D

January 22, 2026 - 1 min read

Language apps and live classes offer different ways to learn, but many stumble. The gap between these options means many can't find affordable, consistent learning that fits their schedule.

Founded in 2012 by Kirill Bigai and Dmytro Voloshyn, the Preply platform connects language learners to vetted tutors, aiming to provide a personalised learning experience by combining human-led instruction with AI acting as a 'co-pilot' throughout the learning process. Machine learning (ML) algorithms match students to instructors based on their specific learning objectives and availability. Meanwhile, generative tools provide automated lesson summaries, progress tracking and personalised homework, enabling teachers to focus more on high-value coaching and conversational practice.

Having recently raised $150 million in a Series D funding round led by WestCap, the company plans to use the new capital to deepen its AI capabilities, expand its product and engineering teams across its offices in New York, London, Barcelona and Kyiv, and accelerate its market growth.
