R3robotics secures €20 million to industrialise automated electric vehicle dismantling

Although the transition to electric mobility has accelerated, processing these vehicles at the end of their life remains a significant industrial challenge due to the hazards and high costs associated with manual disassembly.

Founded in 2021 by Antoine Welter and Xavier Kohll, R3robotics (formerly Circu Li-ion) provides an AI-driven dismantling platform built to automate the recovery of valuable components from electric vehicle systems. Using a combination of advanced computer vision and specialised robotic tools, the technology can safely process lithium-ion battery packs, e-motors and power electronics. By replacing labour-intensive manual processes with a scalable system, the platform provides a consistent supply of essential raw materials and reusable components for the circular economy.

The Luxembourg-based start-up has raised €20 million in equity and grants. The €14 million Series A round was co-led by HG Ventures and Suma Capital, with participation from the EIC Fund, Oetker Collection, and existing investors. An additional €6 million was secured through European grants. R3robotics intends to use the fresh capital to expand its dismantling infrastructure.
