French AI startup Retab has secured €3 million in pre-seed funding led by VentureFriends, with participation from Kima Ventures, K5 Global, and notable angel investors including Eric Schmidt, Olivier Pomel, and Florian Douetteau, as the company emerges from stealth to scale its intelligent document processing platform.

Retab addresses the persistent challenge of extracting structured data from unstructured documents across industries where manual processing remains costly and error-prone. The platform serves as an intelligent orchestration layer that transforms any document format (PDFs, scans, handwritten notes) into clean, structured data through automated AI model selection and routing.

Central to Retab's undertaking is their self-optimizing architecture that automatically benchmarks and routes documents to the most suitable AI models from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and others based on performance criteria. The platform employs guided reasoning and consensus mechanisms across multiple models to ensure production-grade reliability, moving beyond fragile automation pipelines that often fail in real-world scenarios.

With document-heavy industries increasingly seeking reliable AI automation solutions, Retab's approach to intelligent model orchestration addresses the gap between AI prototypes and production-ready applications. The funding will support platform expansion and community growth as enterprises prioritize robust document automation capabilities over brittle, single-model approaches.
