The Estonian startup Starship Technologies raised USD 50 million last week in a Series C round led by Plural, with participation from Karma.vc, Latitude, Coefficient Capital, among others.
Founded in 2014 by Skype cofounders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, Starship Technologies is a company focused on the last mile that uses robots to make deliveries at universities, companies, and cities around the world, currently having 2,700 units that operate autonomously.
Its main product is six-wheeled electric robots with Level 4 autonomy (~99%), or in other words capable of operating without human intervention within predefined zones and conditions. Equipped with cameras, radars, and sensors that, through machine learning algorithms, perceive the environment, plan routes, and move through different spaces.
With this funding, they expect to strengthen their presence in different countries and cities in the United States, along with increasing their fleet to reach the goal of 12,000 robots by 2027.
