Filing a patent has always been slow and expensive. The process involves translating technical inventions into legal claims and managing correspondence with patent offices across multiple jurisdictions, which takes around two months or more. For startups and SMEs - most likely to be developing genuinely novel technology without the legal infrastructure to protect it - the cost and complexity of patent protection can lead to delays or even the abandonment of filings altogether.
Lightbringer, a Sweden-based startup founded in 2023 by Dominic Davies, Markus Andreasson and Ola Wassvik, was built for start-ups and SMEs that require IP protection but cannot afford the cost or wait the time required for traditional patent services. While most AI patent tools are productivity aids for existing law firms, Lightbringer combines agentic AI and licensed attorney oversight in a single workflow. It handles invention capture, claim drafting, prosecution tracking and portfolio management directly, without routing everything through external legal counsel. Attorneys review outputs before submission and clients manage the process on the platform. According to the company, filing timelines drop from around two months to just a few days. The platform covers filing, prosecution and IP strategy across multiple jurisdictions and is SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR certified.
In June 2026, Lightbringer closed a $10 million Series A co-led by 6 Degrees Capital and Newion, with Thomas Olszewski of 6 Degrees Capital and Dorus Olgers of Newion joining the board. The capital will support expansion into the US market and continued platform development for deep tech companies.
