UK's NEX Health Intelligence closes €1M pre-seed to predict hospital infections before transmission begins

May 26, 2026 - 2 min read

Healthcare-associated infections increase hospital stay times and strain staff, and in the most serious cases, are fatal. Timing is the challenge for infection prevention and control teams: by the time a transmission event can be seen through conventional surveillance, the window of early intervention has often already closed. Infection control has, for decades, been reactive rather than predictive. There is data to act earlier inside hospital systems; the infrastructure to make this possible in real-time has not been created.

NEX Health Intelligence, a UK-based company co-founded by Dr Ashleigh Myall and Dr Chang Ho Yoon, has developed an AI platform designed to address this issue. Dr Myall's work supporting the NHS COVID-19 response gave him direct exposure to how rapidly infections can spread among vulnerable hospital patients, and his subsequent PhD focused on building AI systems capable of predicting intra-hospital transmission. NEX's platform operates across three integrated layers: risk intelligence, which identifies which patients are most at risk and when intervention is needed; outbreak intelligence, which detects and supports the containment of emerging transmission clusters; and surveillance intelligence, which automates the routine case review workload currently consuming significant IPC team time. The system integrates with existing hospital infrastructure and is compliant with NHS DTAC, NHS DSPT, Cyber Essentials Plus and DCB0129 Clinical Safety.

In May 2026, NEX closed a €1 million pre-seed funding round, led by Brighteye Ventures and with participation from Adeline Arts & Science, AFI Ventures, Momentous Ventures, the Conception X Angel Syndicate and industry angels. The capital will support hospital expansion in the UK and internationally, as well as regulatory and clinical safety work and the generation of clinical and economic evidence from live deployments.
