Pierre-Alexandre Balland
Director
Pierre-Alexandre is the Co-Founder and Director of AI World. He created the platform to address a recurring gap he observed at the highest levels of business and policy: critical AI decisions were being made without rigorous, real-time intelligence.
At AI World, he leads a multidisciplinary team that transforms vast global data streams - spanning patents, scientific research, venture capital flows, talent movements, and market dynamics - into clear, actionable strategic insight. Under his leadership, AI World has become a trusted resource for organizations seeking to understand where AI innovation is accelerating, who the key players are, and where the most promising whitespace opportunities lie. From mapping the competitive landscape of frontier AI models to tracking capital allocation and benchmarking national AI strategies, the platform converts signal and noise into informed decision-making.
This work reflects the convergence of Pierre-Alexandre’s two core areas of expertise: economic complexity and applied artificial intelligence. As Chief Data Scientist at CEPS and through his academic career at Utrecht University, MIT, UCLA, and currently Harvard University’s Growth Lab, he has developed methods to analyze how technologies evolve, which sectors and regions are positioned to benefit, and how to detect strategic opportunities before they become obvious. That analytical foundation is embedded in AI World’s architecture and mission.
